Dragonfly
The dragonfly is large predatory insect generally found around watery areas in both the North and South Hemispheres. The dragonfly is very similar to a damselfly but the wings on the adults are considerably different.
The dragonfly is found hovering near lakes and swamps as the dragonfly larvae (the nymph/baby) is aquatic. The dragonfly nymph is capable of producing a painful bite for human, where the adult dragonfly poses no threat.
The dragonfly is best known for its beautiful colours and the way it's body and wings sparkle when the dragonfly is flying around the water.
Dragonflies have long, thin and generally colourful bodies, large eyes and two pairs of transparent wings. As with other species of insect, the dragonfly also has six legs but it is unable to walk on solid ground. In flight the adult dragonfly can propel itself in six directions which are upward, downward, forward, back, and side to side.
Both the dragonfly and it's larvae are carnivorous animals and they feed exclusively on other small animals. The main prey of the dragonfly are mosquitoes, flies, bees and other small invertebrates. The dragonfly larvae feeds mainly on aquatic insects and their eggs.
The dragonfly is preyed upon by a number of predators around the world including birds, fish and reptiles such as lizards. The dragonfly is also commonly eaten by amphibians such as toads, frogs and large newts.
Female dragonflies lay their eggs in or near water, often on floating or emergent plants. The dragonfly eggs then hatch into nymphs. which is how most of the dragonfly's life is spent. The dragonfly nymphs live beneath the water's surface, using extendible jaws to catch other invertebrates or even vertebrates such as tadpoles and fish.
The larval stage of large dragonflies may last as long as five years. In smaller species, this stage may last between two months and three years. When the larva is ready to metamorphose into an adult, it climbs up a reed or other emergent plant. Exposure to air causes the larva to begin breathing. The skin splits at a weak spot behind the head and the adult dragonfly crawls out of its old larval skin, pumps up its wings, and flies off to feed on midges and flies.

Chipmunks, the smallest members of the squirrel family, feed on nuts, berries, seeds, and grains. They stuff food into their cheek pouches and carry it to their burrows to store, lively and speedy critters, chipmunks are small members of the squirrel family. Their podgy cheeks, large, glossy eyes, stripes, and bushy tails have made them a favourite among animators, and landed them a series of starring roles in Hollywood.
Of the 25 species of chipmunks, all but one, Asia’s chipmunk, is found in North America. Ranging from Canada to Mexico, they are generally seen scampering through the undergrowth of a variety of environments from alpine forests to shrubby deserts. Some dig burrows to live in, complete with tunnels and chambers, while others make their homes in nests, bushes, or logs. Depending on species, chipmunks can be grey to reddish-brown in colour with contrasting dark and light stripes on the sides of their face and across their back and tail.
Chipmunks generally gather food on the ground in areas with underbrush, rocks, and logs, where they can hide from predators like hawks, foxes, coyotes, weasels, and snakes. They feed on insects, nuts, berries, seeds, fruit, and grain which they stuff into their generous cheek pouches and carry to their burrow or nest to store. Chipmunks hibernate, but instead of storing fat, they periodically dip into their cache of nuts and seeds throughout the winter.

Halloween by Sophie Mumm

Around the World
Halloween is not celebrated in all countries and regions of the world, and among those that do the traditions and importance of the celebration are quite different from one another. Celebration in USA and Canada has a great impact on how Halloween is observed in other nations. This larger North American influence has extended to places such as South America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan and other parts of East Asia.
Trick-or- treating
Is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. They go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question "trick or treat?"The word "trick" refers to a "threat" to perform a prank on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.
Food!
Because the holiday comes around the annual harvest, candy apples, caramel or taffy apples are common Halloween treats made by rolling whole apple's in a sticky sugar syrup, sometimes also rolling them in nuts.
- Candy corn
- caramel corn
- pumpkin pie
- candy shaped like bats, worms, skulls etc.
- soul cakes
Costumes
Halloween costumes are normaly modeled after figures such as monsters, ghost, skeletons, witches and devils. Other costumes could also inclued popular characters like ninjas and princesses.
